Old Tools Come in Handy as Decor

Old Tools Come in Handy as Decor

Another evening I knocked over an older instrument, an antique wooden rake I have propped up in my kitchen, for the umpteenth time. Briefly I considered chucking it into the storage space. If it came down to it, even though, I could not. It is such an intriguing piece, remembering the silent times until the leaf blower has been invented. Other architects and architects on share my love of using tools as decor, whether they are farm implements, vintage garden gear, gears as well as antique toolboxes. Here is a glance at two methods to give old tools a new life around the house.

1. Utilize them as sculptural found art. In this farmhouse renovation, a farm implement becomes a sculpture. Beyond it, the proprietor’s sailboat mast from childhood functions as the railroad, along with an antique snowshoe rounds outside the found object vignette.

2. Find tools utilized in new types. This darling chair allows you to do a double take; seem closer and you will realize its back is a pitchfork and its legs are ax handles. It also comes in a stool version.

3. Create artistic handles. At the inventive home of two Seattle artists, older tools and gears form the gate hardware.

These door handles are not only great for a nursery or garden shop, but could also work well on a potting shed, barn or other outbuilding.

4. Find artful ways to display tools that you use on a regular basis. In blogger Brooklyn Limestone’s workplace, crafts are celebrated with a functional, nicely framed pegboard for tools, paired with an oversized set of shears.

5. Add country charm to an area. In this gardener’s kitchen, antique tools bring a touch of rustic style to this polished white kitchen.

6. Enhance the appearance of age. Hang one large antique tool with plenty of space around it. In this patina-style area, the antique pitchfork stands out against the ivory walls, along with the wood plays off the aged wood onto the armoire.

7. Utilize a vintage toolbox as a mobile display piece. Toolboxes have a charm all of their own, and you can use them as in-boxes, garden trugs, craft provide corrals, planters and much more.

These toolboxes look great in rooms using a vintage-modern-style like this one.

8. Utilize garden tools as outside decor. Some may be just decorative; others it’s possible to pull down and utilize while gardening.

9. Use your imagination. I shared this favourite garden gate in the Atlanta Botanical Gardens a couple weeks before, and it inspired this ideabook.
