Rustic Charm to a Summer Campsite in Alabama

Sliding barn doors, a farmhouse sink and homey antiques result in an idyllic summer getaway for Glenn and Carter Breazeale and both brothers. Though most of the year that the family resides in Chattanooga, Tennessee, this woodsy Alabama refuge on the campgrounds of this Alpine Camp for Boys, which the Breazeales codirect, functions as a second home.

Befitting the hot summer days, vibrant prints and patterns brighten each room, while rustic decor and accessories reflect the home’s natural surroundings.

You’re able to hear the small River in the screened-in porch, Glenn and Carter’s favorite room. Filled with locally crafted outdoor furniture and string lights, “this is an excellent place to sit and visit on a summer evening,” says Carter.

Double doors lead into the living spaces in the screened-in porch; a timeworn pawn shops firewood and everything necessary for a last-minute tea party.

The open floor plan includes a connected dining room, living room and kitchen. “Because we were using different paint colors in each area, the transitions between the main-floor chambers created a issue,” Carter says. “I was not certain how to create the break in colors not look too unpleasant.” She solved the problem by using vintage eaves with curled cut in the corners to create a sense of separation.

Glass-front built-in closets showcase the couple’s favourite Mississippi pottery along with neighborhood handmade tumblers and pitchers by friends at Orbix Hot Glass.

The dining room blends formal and casual furnishings. Soft vintage linens are draped over a French classic dining table, dating back to the early 1800s, even though a vintage chandelier hangs it. Both pieces were located at Scott’s Antiques in Atlanta. “I really like a treasure hunt,” Carter says.

A farmhouse sink sits beneath big kitchen windows that face the front lawn. The sink “was just one thing I understood from the start that I wanted in my kitchen,” says Carter.

She sketched and designed that the open shelving for its cabinet designers to build. Glass vases color the shelves and brighten the kitchen wall.

Flowers fill locally made vases out of McCarty’s Pottery on the mantel. “This Mississippi pottery is my absolute favourite. It connects us to our Mississippi roots, and also the wonderful reds and greens remind me of all the mountains,” says Carter.

More Mississippi pottery and plants decorate the dresser and record player. “My notion of gardening is being able to walk outside my back door and cut flowers or greenery in any respect,” Carter says.

“My primary purpose in our home was to have big, open spaces where we could easily entertain and open up our house to our team, and little nooks and crannies where you could cozy up to read , or our women could play,” Carter says.

Soft yellow background depicts tree branches in a guest bathroom off the living area. “I really like wallpaper and thought this was an economical way to integrate it in the home rather than doing a complete room,” Carter says. A mason jar with dried flowers and a weathered window decorate the classic hutch.

Colorful banners and string lights bring a dose of magical to a second-floor reading nook. The distance is the brothers’ favorite in the home. “They’re the ultimate critic for me : Should they love the house they are growing up in, I have succeeded,” Carter says.

The two-story home is nestled in the forests miles from the main road. “I love I can walk outside my door and take my women on a rise, or they could walk to a nearby creek and play for hours,” says Carter.

Carter exits her front door with some of the year’s vibrant trimmings. The natural wood doors and soft grey exterior color bring warmth to this covered front entrance. “I wanted my home to be cozy and also to match the environment surrounding it,” Carter says.
