1. Front Door with Red Orange Brick

user gidmo is looking for a front door color that will help it stand out. The brick is a reddish-orange colour.

Choice 1, reddish: A new spin on the classic red front door is to go warmer with a red-orange hue or cooler with a red which has a little blue in it. This rich, cooler cranberry colour would look great from the red-orange brick. The neutral taupe would be a great accent color on the wood porch railing.

Door: Cranberry Cocktail 2083-20; trimming: Taos Taupe 2111-40 (both from Benjamin Moore).

Choice 2, green : Green can make the door really stand out from the brick siding. Green and red are reverse hues on the color wheel, and therefore they give maximum contrast to one another.

Door: Coastal Plain SW6192; trimming: Artichoke SW6179 (both from Sherwin-Williams).

2. Front and Garage Doors With a Dark Brown Exterior

Denise1234 simply had her home reroofed and the siding painted a dark taupe-brown. Now she’s looking for colour ideas for her garage and front door to make a contemporary look for her home’s exterior.

Option orange: A bright burst of orange at the front door is a great way to draw focus to the entrance. I’d keep the garage door a much more neutral hue, like this lighter taupe colour.

Clockwise from top left (all from Sherwin-Williams): Marquis Orange SW6650, Functional Gray SW7024 and Griffin SW7026.

Option 2, aqua: A mild watery blue would also be a nice contrast to the darkened siding color. Turquoise was a cool house accent color of late, but I think that it’s a new classic that would work well on this particular home.

Clockwise from top left (all from Sherwin-Williams): Drizzle SW6479, Argos SW7065 and Griffin SW7026.

3. Shutters and Front Door With a moderate Tan Exterior

AS Brown is not afraid of colour and wants to paint her front door and dividers for a new appearance. She prefers something apart from red, as many houses in her neighborhood currently sport that colour.

Option 1, teal: with this kind of a mild siding colour I’d go with a bold color for front door, but something profound and about the darker side so it stands out. This profound teal for front door and lighter cool green for those shutters would appear great.

Clockwise from top left (all from Valspar): Firmament 5003-8C, Green Tea Leaves 5004-1C and Thistle Seed 7003-13.

Choice 2, mauve: A moody mauve could be an interesting alternative to reddish. Paired with a deeper purplish wine for those walls, it would make an unexpected exterior palette which would certainly set the home apart from the neighbors.

Clockwise from top left (all from Valspar): Raspberry Wine 1009-9, Unusual Wine 1011-9 and Thistle Seed 7003-13.

Choice 3, olive green: following is a third option that takes a more neutral approach. The green to the front door has some brown in it, which helps tone down it. The shutter colour is a dark gray-green which also reads as a neutral. I find this palette very elegant and a great way to inject color in a subtler way.

Clockwise from top left (all from Valspar): Cactus Shadow 5008-4B, Iron Frost 4007-2B and Thistle Seed 7003-13.
