Safety Glass

Safety Glass

Safety glass is highly engineered glass that’s made to violate safely at the proper applications. There are basically 3 types of security glass: tempered, laminated and annealed. Each type is created by its own distinctive process, depending on if the glass has to be powerful, elastic or a combination of the two.

Annealed glass is a safety glass that’s been cooled slowly to make a suface that’s less likely to break with temperature changes. Annealed glass can break in large, sharp shards, so using it in low-traffic areas is important. It is not as expensive to manufacture than tempered glass, and stronger than ordinary glass.

Tempered glass is used for doors and in high-traffic areas. The glass is heated and chilled with a burst of very cold atmosphere, which makes the brittle surface hip faster than the comparatively soft core. The outcome is glass which may break into tiny square pieces which have rounded edges. Tempered glass is much stronger than annealed glass and safer in case it breaks.

Tempered glass can also be known as toughened glass. Security codes have made tempered glass compulsory for areas where human protection is necessary. Any window within 3 feet of a doorway needs tempered glass.

Laminated glass typically has two layers of glass using a picture coating of polyvinyl butyral between them. This elastic layer enables the glass to have a small bend to it ; if the glass shatters, a cloth of small glass pieces will stay on the film. Laminated glass is used for car windshields, while side doors and back windows have tempered glass. Laminated glass can be used for floors and contains an excellent sound-dampening ability.

Glass floors for catwalks need to follow many code requirements to length the space safely. Floor panels made from glass can combine all the types of safety glass to one. They can be constructed of laminated layers of tempered or heat-strengthened or annealed glass.
